Midterm HWD Accountability ECSE 421

I have learned this far a lot how the FERPA and HIPPA laws work. Being a student we are never really taught these things. So being in this class I was able to learn how it actually works.  Another thing I learned was learning more about the disabilities such as ADA. How we need to be more aware and how to handle the situation. I also thought it was interesting learning about the Social and cultural systems and understanding why the child might behave in certain ways. I've also learned that every relationship we have with some can give us a stress/ not stress  on a level.    Using this information thus far I know will help me in my future career because it will help me give a deeper understanding and know how to help children better. 40/50

I learned the first steps of how to interview the parent and child in home visits.  I learned that I have found will be most useful is the baseline plan. Having a domain goal and knowing how to plan it will be important.  Question: Is there anyway I can go back and fix past assignments for a better grade?           What I did to learn the materials this last week is I made a goal to take more notes while in class. I feel that I tend to remember more when I take notes.  I really enjoyed this weeks topics. I feel like what helped me learn most was when the mother came in and spoke, and as well as when I had to interview a sibling and as well as a professional who is involved in special needs. I feel confident in what I have recently learned. The topics touched up on people's related experience and advice that I plan on applying to it in the future.          Weekly quote: The mother's lecture "Find the joy in the journey daily" "Expect the unexpected."         HWD:  " There are many applications that allow students to provide live feedback. A lot of them can be used from smartphones. You can also gather feedback by creating a “back channel” using Twitter. This week I learned ways how to ...

I learned that I thought was most important was learning how even adults learn.  As education majors we are often taught how children learn. But not as adults learn even if we are one. But everyone is learning. Learning both how the child and parents learn can help improve  most and help have better experiences with the home visits if we are aware and involve the parents in the process. Weekly Quote: "With knowledge of adult learning principles, service providers can facilitate parents' learning in ways that expand capacity and increase the parents' confidence and competence with enhancing the child's development."

I felt like I learned a lot more from the videos we watched for the preparation materials. I am more of a visual learner so watching and learning from those videos helped me a lot more and I feel like I was able to connect and learn from the personal experiences it gave more. I liked how in the videos and the blog post  it really talked about expectations. No parent expects their child to have a disability. So no parent really knows what to expect or how to expect. But I also liked how it brought up how it really is the same with every kid. Just the expectations change with kids with disabilities. It's important to remember that no one is perfect, even people without disabilities. Everyone needs to remember we can grow and learn from each other.  We are all trying and shouldn't judge and expect so much when everyone is different and this was an eyeopener to me and know that those expectations will change. Weekly quote: "So here we are, all...

I have learned briefly about the ages and stages but not in detail. Learning about the development in each stage has been very interesting. I also didn't know there was a way to calculate their birth date and the testing date. I think having an outline like the ages and stages will help with evaluations such as improving the child's development and it will also help with the future home visits. Weekly quote "It is not what you do for children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings."

Weekly quote: "These inside  the family" characteristics shape a family's beliefs, practices, and lifestyles and in turn how the family wants or can be a partner with professionals. But there are "outside the family" influences such as  the sociopolitical climate that can influence a family's sense of comfort and safety if they live where discrimination, violence, distrust, and racism exist." Families, Professionals, and Exceptionality, p.10. The reading materials really helped me gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics of a family and really helped define the family more. I thought this topic was interesting because with how important family is in this culture we never really talk about the characteristics of a family are exactly what family is. This stood out to me because family is very important to me and this will help me better improve my relationships with my family in the future. I could learn better by taking more time to read t...

ESCE 421 ADA Blog Post

I was given the sensory disorder. I had the opportunity to feel like what it’s like having limited feelings in my hand.  What I did to be able to experience it was to be able to cook the entire meal with while wearing oven mitts.   The meal that I had chosen to do was macaroni and cheese. I choose this because I’m not much a cook myself and this was one of the few meals, I could do so I thought it would be easy to do it with oven mitts on. I was wrong from the start. It was hard to even get all the ingredients I needed just out of the fridge, especially the butter. Getting all the right ingredients and measuring it was hard to get it to exact with so little control in the hands. Luckily macaroni and cheese doesn’t take the exact measurements for the ingredients so even if I had troubles and didn’t get the measurements right it would still taste okay.    This disorder related to me on a personal level because while it may not be the same  thing,  ...

1.  I didn't know that thought was important is that it's important to team. That you must also teach the parents. I thought it was interesting how we talked about how to teach adults as well and learning which type of learning the parents are so it would become more beneficial. 2. What I found most useful was the video that was shown in class. Because it showed really more of what the home visits will be like and helped me get more of an idea on how to do it. 3. Will we have to create a lesson plan for the home visits? 4. "Natural environments means settings that are normal for the child's age peers who have no disabilities to the maximum extent appropriate to the needs of the child, early intervention services must be provided in natural environments."

1. The process I did to learn the materials is I read and watched the videos then the next couple days I would review it again. 2. The resources that helped me the most would be the videos. The videos showed how personal it was for some special needs people and what they had struggled with the most. 3. I definitely still  could use more reviewing as it was a lot of information but I feel like I would know enough that I feel more prepared to help others special needs be more successful. 4. We all learned a lot but I think we learned best by talking to each other about it. 5. Weekly quote: " To secure better outcomes for the children, Congress admonished educators and parents alike to have "high expectations" for the children, and it required educators to ensure that the children have access to the regular classroom to the maximum extent appropriate for the child so that the students will "meet the developmental goals and, to the maximum extent possible."
